Ayana Thaanum MSW, LSW is experienced in providing mental health services to individuals across the lifespan. She received her Bachelor of Art in Psychology and Social Science from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming.

Upon completion of her BA, Ayana moved to Colorado and began working at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. While working at CU Anschutz, Ayana completed her MSW at the University of Denver and became a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). Beyond her graduate training, Ayana has spent time working on the Adolescent Psychiatry Unit at the Medical Center of Aurora’s Behavioral Health and Wellness Center as well as with the National Mental Health Innovation Center.

Ayana has a strong passion for helping clients achieve a better quality of life. Using evidence-based practices, she works in collaboration with clients and families to address problems, identify strengths, and develop necessary skills to maintain lasting well-being. Ayana has experience in depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, crisis stabilization, self-harm, and more. She primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Additionally, she regularly incorporates evidence-based mindfulness practices into her work with clients. When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling to new cities with her loved ones and playing with her dog, Loki.
